Installing already-built site

Postby NickM » Wed Jan 27, 2010 9:37 pm

I built a site offline and it works with the portable server I'm using from my USB drive. If I want to move this site to a web server now, how do I have to adjust the folder permissions? (IE, what folders should have special permission numbers?)

Thanks,
Nick

HI,

you don't, we don't rock that way round here bud.

Step one, on your local site, backup using the tool in the admin panel, then go install the system to a server, add the blade packs you had on the local system (you don't have to set them up just install), then restore form the backup your took off the local machine.

OR

If you fancy trying something different, not tried this before but should work, i think,

take the razor parcel file and the install file you use to install the system, unpack the razor parcel, delete the datastore directory, now copy the datastore directory from the local system you have working to replace the datastore directory you just deleted form the unpacked parcel.

next copy the blade pack folder over too.

To finish off, re zip all the folders (not the top level folder you created when extracting, just click on all the system folders and files) and zip them calling them the same as the parcel you extracted them from.

Now if you use this new zipped parcel file with the installer and install the system, it should, once installed be fully operational, with all your pages and settings in tact.

THIS IS EXPERIMENTAL i have never tried this, but it should work, or you can try the tested method i put down first.........

please do not, ftp your system and leave permissions open, this would be a risk, use one of the two methods I listed here.
